What is a Protection Order? An Order of Protection is a written court order, signed by a judge, requiring an abusive “household member” (an example: spouse, former spouse, family member, including relative, parent, present or former stepparent, present or former in-law, child or co-parent of a child, or a person with whom you have had a continuing personal relationship) to stop abusing the victim or any other household member.
